Synopsis

Checkered Flag is a top-down racing game with scaling and rotating sprites. The player navigates winding paths trying to reach the finish line before the timer expires.

The game allows pit stops, a feature that had appeared a year earlier in Taito's "Continental Circus". If the player's car suffers too much damage, a pit stop must be made to make repairs. A "damage meter" at the bottom of the screen indicates the extent of the damage; it highlights the components of the car that need repair: engine, front tires, rear tires and brakes.
