Synopsis

The first in the series of games sponsored by Chuck Yeager, “Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer” is not a flight simulator like any other. There are no campaigns or even missions against countries enemies of the United States. It is indeed a software for learning to pilot a fighter plane, more accessible than the “Flight Simulator”. Fourteen aircraft, real or experimental, are at your disposal. You can fly freely, but also learn to perform several acrobatic figures. For this, the author, Ned Lerner, had an ingenious idea: a square cursor is displayed on the windshield to indicate the direction to follow. Thus, for an Immelmann, the cursor rises then stabilizes, while messages at the bottom of the screen advise increasing or lowering the throttle and pivoting the device. Second type of exercise: running. You must follow an opponent by slaloming at full speed between buildings on the ground. To improve your skills, “Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer” offers another excellent idea: recording the flight. By restarting the race, the opponent exactly reproduces your previous flight, so you can see your mistakes and try to improve your performance. There are several exterior views to admire the plane in action from every angle. If you fail, Chuck Yeager will encourage or tease you in the form of a digital image.
