Combat Air Patrol
Synopsis
You have the choice between three phases: patrol, landing and refueling. You start in Patrol mode, although, oddly enough, your landing gear is down despite the fact that you're traveling at over 500 mph and almost 3,000 feet. It's during patrols that the combat sequences take place, with enemy planes appearing randomly in your front sight or rearview mirror. To deal with it, you have 90 cannons and two missiles.
Pressing "R" takes you into the refueling sequence, where you're told the heading, height, and speed you need to reach before you're allowed to try to line up your Tornado with a tanker in a separate little graphical sequence.
The landing routine also gives you a heading and height to aim for before you can lower your Tornado (now one pixel) into the landing screen at the bottom left of the main screen. This main screen gives you all the readings you need, including altitude, fuel supply, speed and heading, although the heading is simply the eight points of the compass rather than a specific bearing.
