Synopsis

Like in the first The Cooking Mama game, players in The Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends prepare various culinary dishes using the Nintendo DS touch screen. Following the titular "Mama's" on-screen instructions, the player uses the stylus to perform various activities such as cutting vegetables or mixing ingredients. Each of these tasks is carried out by completing a short mini-game, several mini-games linking together to form an entire dish from a catalog of 80 different recipes.

After completing a dish, the player's culinary performance is evaluated and a numerical score (out of 100) is awarded, along with a corresponding medal. If the player fails a stage in Let's Cook mode or gets a "fail" during a stage (in different ranges), they will receive a "Broken Silver" medal, similar to the silver medal, with an added crack. Unlike previous Cooking Mama titles, bonuses obtained during mini-games do not influence the overall score, but accumulate as "bonus stars". For every 5 bonuses, the player gains an item to unlock at the end of the recipe.
