Synopsis

You wake up with a start and, mechanically, you look for a pencil and a white sheet of paper on your desk. But you only feel the frosty sleeve of your uncle's coat. Opening your eyes, the mystery is solved: you are no longer in his office at the University of Königsberg, where you usually help him. You find yourself on a narrow trail that winds through increasingly dense, snow-covered forests – on another one of his “excursions.” This time he's researching vampire bats and their connection to a strange human race for a book. This is of little interest to you, because you are neither adventurous nor very courageous. But the sinister howls of the wolf that echo in the trees and the tense atmosphere plunge you into an oppressive unease.
