Agyou Souma, the protagonist, is the Class A IDLA detective. IDLA stands for International Detective Licensing Agency. It is a very respectable agency that rates and ranks a detective based on their abilities as a detective, from Class A to Class F. There are only 30 Class A detectives in the entire world and there are only 2 Class A detectives in Japan.

IDLA also collects all kinds of requests and offers them to detectives to work on. Its base is located in London. Of course, Souma is the type of person who probably won't take any cases from IDLA.

He is a stoic and brooding man of few words, his incredible powers of observation and deduction tempered by his terrible luck. He can't even go out for a cup of coffee without the cafe being robbed, or cross the street without getting into a shootout between two rival gangs. Yet what can he do? Life goes on...

Over the course of the game, Souma works on four separate (but simultaneous) cases, each containing a unique storyline independent of the others, and encountering a wide range of characters. If he solves all four cases with time to spare, a fifth, more complex case is presented.
