Synopsis

Elite is a free-form space combat and combat simulation, generally considered the granddaddy of this subgenre. The player initially controls a character called "Commander Jameson", starting at Lave Station with 100 credits and a lightly armed merchant ship called the Cobra Mark III. Most of the game involves traveling to different star systems, trading with their inhabitants, earning money and reputation. Money can also be earned by means other than trade; these include undertaking military missions, bounty hunting, asteroid mining, and even piracy. As the player character earns money, they become able to upgrade their ships with upgrades such as better weapons, shields, increased cargo capacity, automated docking system, etc.
