Synopsis
In Eliza, the computer takes on the role of a therapist, asking seemingly empathetic questions based on your previous responses. It analyzes keywords and rephrases them to keep the conversation going. What feels like true understanding is just clever text manipulation. Yet Eliza managed to convince many users they were talking to a real person – paving the way for AI and early text adventures.
