Synopsis

Evening Star is actually an upgraded version of Southern Belle - a steam engine simulator - whose route was modified for the early 1960s Somerset and Dorset line (Bath to Bournemouth, England) and whose locomotive is the standard BR Class 9F (2-10-0) "Evening Star" (number 92220, the last British steam engine built) pulling the "Pines Express".

The game features a demo mode and seven scenarios of increasing difficulty, with the highest level putting you in full control of the train, with all indicators to monitor, more problems to solve and a random schedule to follow. You start at the stop in the station and have to move your train forward. You must maintain different speed levels on the track to respect the speed limits imposed there and keep an eye out for the signals you see along the way. The whistle must be used correctly and you must ensure the water, steam and coal levels are correct to meet schedules.
