Everest
Synopsis
In Everest, you lead an expedition of six climbers into the Himalayas and can choose to try to climb Nuptse (25,850 feet), Lhotse (27,890 feet), or Everest (29,028 feet) in spring or fall. Climbing conditions are generally more difficult in autumn. Your task is to bring all six climbers to the summit in as few days as possible. Climbers are sent from camp to camp alone or in pairs.
The day's climbing begins at 6:00 a.m. and is expected to end at 4:00 p.m. If a climber has not reached camp b by this time, their fitness will suffer as they will have difficulty finding shelter after dark. The first two stages on each mountain involve climbing the Khumbu Glacier where there is a risk of being swept away by avalanches or being delayed by crevasses.
The highest stages from Camp 2 to the top consist of an almost vertical climb with avalanche danger and constant risk of a climber falling. If three of the climbers die, food runs out, or weather conditions get worse, the expedition is abandoned. There are usually 3-4 weeks of climbing before weather conditions become impossible. Throughout each attempt, you have access to comprehensive reports on the climber's position and fitness, supplies and weather. This game tries to represent as many features of a real Himalayan expedition as possible. Light expeditions without Sherpas have been tried recently, and the use of fixed ropes has become normal practice over the past 15 years.
