the Korg EX-8000 Programmable Polyphonic Synthesizer Module was the rackmount version of the DW-8000 hybrid synthesizer, designed for studio and MIDI-based production environments. Developed by Korg, it featured digitally generated single-cycle waveforms combined with analog resonant low-pass filters, 8-voice polyphony, and built-in digital delay. The EX-8000 provided the same synthesis architecture as the DW series in a compact rack format, making it a practical expansion module for keyboard setups and MIDI studios.

The EX-8000 is essentially the rack version of the Korg DW-8000, sharing the same hybrid digital-analog architecture.

It used digitally stored waveforms (single-cycle samples) rather than full PCM samples, keeping memory requirements low while offering rich timbral variety.

Its analog resonant filter section was a defining part of its sound, giving warmth and character to otherwise digital oscillator sources.

The built-in digital delay contributed significantly to its signature ambient and spatial sound design capabilities.

It was widely used in MIDI rack setups alongside other 1980s synthesizer modules in professional studios.

The EX-8000 supported external control via MIDI, making it suitable for sequencing-heavy production workflows.
