486-VIP-IO (c) 1994 First International Computer

The 486-VIP-IO was designed to be the "all-in-one" solution for the mid-1994 market. It allowed users to utilize their existing legacy VLB graphics or controller cards while transitioning to the newer PCI standard. FIC was one of the few manufacturers capable of producing such a complex board at scale, leveraging their manufacturing might to keep the board stable despite the inherent bus contention issues of running VLB and PCI side-by-side.

Chipset: VIA VT82C496G ("Pluto").

CPU Support: Socket 3. Supports standard 486SX, DX, DX2, and DX4 processors.

Expansion: 3x PCI slots, 4x 16-bit ISA slots, and 2x VLB slots.

Memory: 4x 72-pin SIMM sockets (FPM/EDO support).

Form Factor: Baby AT.

Cache: 256KB of L2 cache (DIP-socketed), usually configurable via BIOS settings for write-back or write-through modes.

The "VIP" Name: The "VIP" in the model name stood for VESA / ISA / PCI—an explicit marketing attempt to highlight the board's versatility. It was meant to reassure buyers that they wouldn't have to throw away their old VLB components if they bought a new PCI card.
