Synopsis

The version of FIFA released at the end of 1997 was closely linked to the qualifiers for the 1998 World Cup. In the Road to the World Cup mode, you take charge of a team from the first qualifiers to the main tournament, using the different systems in force in the different regions of the world. The game features 16 distinct outdoor stadiums. League play mode includes 189 clubs and 11 leagues. Each team has its own fan chants integrated into the ambient sound.

The action is faster than in previous versions and the AI has been improved. Players have distinct facial features and hairstyles. Each match is presented by Des Lynam and commentated by John Motson and former Scotland international Andy Gray.
