Synopsis

Frog & Spiders is a fixed-screen shooter, published in 1981 by Taito for arcades. Its operation is reminiscent of Space Invaders, but with a frog as the central cannon and spiders instead of invaders. The playing area represents a vast spider's web stretched between two trees. The player moves the frog sideways, having one button to shoot and another to jump. A shot at a spider causes it to fall from the web; it is then possible to shoot it down again or jump to devour it, which grants bonus points. At the end of the round, additional points are awarded for protecting the other insects trapped in the web, but a penalty of 200 points is imposed for each insect accidentally killed.
