Freetech (often identified in the industry as "Free Computer Technology") was a prominent manufacturer of "white-box" motherboards during the 486 era. The 486FT55 was a standard-market board intended for system integrators and retail PC builders. It was built to offer a reliable platform for the later 486 CPUs (like the DX2 and DX4) and was typical of the era's "Baby AT" form factor designs.

Chipset: Freetech boards of this series generally utilized SiS (Silicon Integrated Systems) or UMC logic, which were the industry standards for ensuring compatibility with both ISA and PCI expansion cards.

CPU Support: Socket 3, providing support for Intel 486SX, DX, DX2, and DX4 processors. It was also commonly used by enthusiasts to run the AMD Am486DX4 and Am5x86 (P75) upgrade processors, though jumper configuration for voltages and multipliers was critical for these chips.

Expansion: Typically featured a mix of PCI and ISA slots, marking it as a "PCI-transition" board.
