Gaiapolis
Synopsis
Gaiapolis takes place in a “heroic fantasy” (medieval-fantasy) universe. Developed and published by Konami on arcade machines in May 1993, it was released exclusively on this medium and has not been adapted for consoles. The game uses a top view graphical representation, quite unusual for this style of game, as well as a vertically oriented monitor (known as a "tate screen"), generally reserved for vertically scrolling shoot'em ups.
Gaiapolis offers classic gameplay at first glance, but which goes off the beaten track of the beat'em all of the time. As for the classic part, the player must face and get rid of waves of enemies that appear successively on the screen, and each level ends with a boss before moving on to the next stage. The three heroes have a fairly classic range of moves and have their own movement speed and attack range. Each character can also use a spell capable of hitting all enemies present on the screen, and execute a "run" by pressing twice before, to accelerate their mobility in order to avoid being surrounded or to then hit more strongly an opponent located at a distance. Additionally, rotating the stick quickly triggers a spinning attack.
