Synopsis

Gauntlet is an action game in which players choose characters and fight their way through hordes of enemies that attack them until the end of the level. One or two players must fight their way through 100 levels of chaos and magic. The game offers a choice of four characters, each with different weapons. Thor the warrior has a piercing war axe, Thyra the valkyrie has a short-range sword, Questor the elf has a long-range bow and Merlin the wizard has magic bolts. Enemies come out of generators, so you have to destroy them before tackling the rest. Keys are required to open the levels' many doors, and in some cases a door will only contain bonus items, not a progressive route. Scattered magic potions act like smart bombs and clear the screen of all enemies. However, be careful with poison, which reduces the character's energy level. Treasures abound throughout the levels and add to the player's score.
