Synopsis

Y'n Hsi is a Buddhist monk whose father was murdered by a warlord called Ch'un Kuei. To defeat the tyrant and reclaim his family's palace, he must take the golden path, the path to transcendence.

The Golden Path is a point and click adventure game. Instead of using verbs like in Maniac Mansion, the player controls the monk with the mouse by moving a Chinese letter-shaped cursor and clicking directly on him on the screen. Left clicking on a point on the ground moves the monk towards that point. Left-clicking under Y'n Hsi causes him to bend over to drop or pick up objects from the ground. Left-clicking above his head makes him try to use the item he is holding at the time (if this is not possible, a question mark appears). Right-clicking allows him to punch and kick, his defense against enemies. Each time the monk is hit, the inventory flashes briefly. A book is located at the bottom left of the screen, and serves as a sort of clue system. By clicking on it, a message appears on the screen with explanations about events, characters and objects. Next to the book is the inventory with four slots for items. Left-clicking on an object places it on Y'n Hsi's hands. Above the inventory is a slowly withering vine, the energy bar. It grows with the accomplishment of certain tasks.
