Synopsis

In Gold Rush!, Jerrod Wilson receives a letter from his missing brother, wrongly accused years before, inviting him to join him in Sacramento, California. Under the stamp is a nugget from California. Jerrod leaves his peaceful life as an editor in Brooklyn to become a pioneer during the gold rush of 1849, hoping to reunite with his brother and "make his fortune."

Released late in Sierra's AGI engine era, Gold Rush! offers three routes to California: by land, by boat to the Atlantic coast of Panama then crossing the isthmus and again by boat on the Pacific, or an entirely maritime route via Cape Horn. Every road has dangers: cholera, shipwrecks. As in the Sierra adventures, death can occur recklessly or randomly. The game is timed: the longer Jerrod takes to leave Brooklyn, the more expensive the passages become and the value of his house decreases.
