Synopsis

nnBuilding on its past in the second half of the 80s, Konami puts us back in control of the now famous Vic Viper in Gradius III.

You don't change a winning formula, that's certainly what the guys from Gradius Team said to themselves, who, for the record, left Konami shortly after to form a certain Treasure...

We therefore find ourselves with a horizontal shoot and the famous options belt system: at the bottom of the screen you have several boxes (speed up, field, option, laser, etc.) which light up each time you take a power up. All you have to do is press the button when the box for the desired arming is lit. The novelty comes from the fact that at the start of each game you can configure your ship before setting off to face the nasty invaders.

This episode introduces an "edit mode" allowing you to select, box by box, the weapons that will equip the Vic Viper. Even more interesting: the weapons available in this mode are, for the most part, completely new, and not necessarily easy to use. The player will therefore be faced with a difficult choice before even starting his game: play it safe by opting for one of the fixed configurations with proven effectiveness, or focus on originality and therefore, draw a line under certain weapons a priori essential to his survival.
