Grand Master
Synopsis
Grand Master is an action RPG, with a cool intro, neat music, and most importantly: a hero with a sword so high that you can't cross it, so low that you can't get under it, and so wide that you can't go around it.
The game itself plays from a top-down perspective, much like The Legend of Zelda, but with additional RPG elements added. It has a base leveling system that reaches 10 and base HP and MP stats that increase by 10 levels up to 99. The stages are also in the same vein as The Legend of Zelda when it comes to dungeons, but in a much simpler form. Instead of an overworld, you instead choose five stages on an overworld map and each stage follows the same basic formula of finding the key to open the door to the boss. Each stage contains several respawning enemies, the occasional chain point, and a handful of chests that contain a new weapon, accessory, and healing items. The final stage also follows the same pattern, but there are about five stages combined into one and borders on torture/redundancy with a series of mazes and long passages that take forever to get through. He disagrees with the first five steps.
The game uses a branching path system based on the order in which you clear all stages. If certain events are not triggered, you will get a bad ending. The optimal order is: Castle, Ice Temple, Cave, Pyramid, Tower. If you enter the tower before the cave level, you will have to get the bad ending. If you enter the pyramid before the cave level, you will get another branch of the story.
