Synopsis

Heavy Unit clearly leans towards R-Type, while emphasizing what makes Irem's title special: memory. Indeed, here this aspect of the game is pushed to its climax: if your ship is not placed correctly, death is assured. The game is therefore extremely difficult in the first parts, but with a little experience, you gradually learn the configuration of the levels to progress fairly correctly.

The other originality of the title is the possibility of transforming. Just like Macross will do later, thanks to certain options you can transform your ship into a large mecha. It is much more powerful, but also much bigger and therefore a much better target for opponents. The most cautious will therefore avoid this transformation to concentrate on the game itself.
