Synopsis

In Highway Patrol II, players take on the role of a police officer who attempts to capture fleeing criminals before they reach the county line. Players start by choosing a target villain, with the tougher ones getting a bigger bonus and making it easier to get promotions. The game takes place from the officer's point of view, looking through the windshield of his patrol car.

Players pursue criminals and must make them stop using intimidation (siren) or force (gun). Players navigate to the criminal's location using a compass and a map. Chasing the bad guy often involves venturing off-road and driving into the desert. Traffic is the most obvious danger in the game, and any contact with innocent people costs promotion points. Other difficulties include: a flat tire, gangsters fighting back, running out of gas or engine failure due to heat.
