HOT-304
Description
Motherboard:
HOT-304 (c) 198? Shuttle Computer International
The HOT-304 is a standard, full-size AT motherboard designed for the 80386DX processor. It is built around the Chips & Technologies (C&T) 82C206 / 82C301/302 chipset, which was the "industry standard" for 386 designs in the late 1980s. Unlike the high-performance OPTi-based boards that followed, the HOT-304 was designed for maximum compatibility with the then-standard IBM PC/AT architecture. It is a straightforward, reliable, and "no-nonsense" motherboard that focused on getting the 386DX CPU stable in a standard corporate environment.
- TRIVIA -
The "Starter" Board: Many smaller system integrators in the early 90s started their business using the HOT-304. Because the C&T chipset was so well-documented and widely supported by BIOS vendors (like AMI), it was almost impossible to make a "bad" system with this board.
Battery Leakage: Like many AT-era boards, the HOT-304 often shipped with a barrel-style NiCd battery soldered near the keyboard connector or the ISA slots. Collectors today are often forced to remove these immediately, as their failure rate is near 100% after 30+ years.
