HOT-307H
Description
Motherboard:
HOT-307H (c) 198? Shuttle Computer International
The HOT-307H is a high-performance 386DX motherboard built on a full-size AT form factor. It is powered by the OPTi 82C495 chipset, which was arguably one of the most reliable 386 chipsets ever created. Designed for the 33 MHz and 40 MHz 386DX market, this board was engineered to minimize wait states through an aggressive, integrated cache controller. It typically features 30-pin SIMM sockets and an optional proprietary memory daughterboard or dedicated SRAM banks for L2 cache.
- TRIVIA -
The "H" Revision: In Shuttle’s numbering, the "H" revision of the 307 series was a major "bug-fix" release. Earlier versions of the HOT-307 had issues with specific DMA timing when used with high-speed controllers (like early SCSI host adapters). The 307H completely overhauled the PCB routing around the DMA controller and the interrupt arbiter, making it a favorite for power users running early multitasking OSes like OS/2 or SCO Unix.
The "Turbo" Button Pioneer: The HOT-307H was one of the first boards to implement an electronic "Turbo" speed toggle that worked reliably across all clock speeds, thanks to the OPTi chipset's ability to dynamically adjust memory refresh rates on the fly—a feature that was often flaky on competing clone boards.
