The ninth installment, Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 9, introduces notable graphical improvements through the use of cel-shading, thus offering a more cartoonish aesthetic. The game includes the professional baseball championship with the official license of the Japanese league, as well as a high school mode leading to the prestigious Kōshien national tournament.

This edition focuses on professional team simulation, with player data updated through April 2002. The enhanced Pennant mode features detailed simulation options, a trading system, the acquisition of free agents and foreign players, and simulations of up to ten seasons. Custom teams in this mode can be used in other modes for a tailored gaming experience.
