Synopsis
The story begins with an introduction to Sun Wukong and his past before the Journey to the West. It then introduces Xuanzang, the main character, and the Buddha's instruction to Guanyin to find someone to take the Buddhist sutras back to the East. Xuanzang is chosen for this mission, and Guanyin seeks bodyguards to accompany him. All companions agree to serve Xuanzang to atone for their past sins. Sun Wukong is the first disciple to join the journey, although Xuanzang often reprimands him for his violence.
