Synopsis

Karate Champ is a head-to-head combat and arcade video game published in 1984 by Technos Japan for Data East. He is credited with introducing and popularizing the one-on-one fighting game genre as well as influencing an entire line of fighting games, such as Konami's Yie Ar Kung-Fu. The player controls a karateka facing either the computer or another player. A wide range of moves can be performed using two joysticks. Each blow to his opponent causes him to crash to the ground and is worth a point or half a point. The first to score two points wins the round. The game features a best-of-three-round format and a bonus round for the winner of each round. The Japanese version takes place in dojos and the Western version takes place in more exotic locations.
