Kenny Dalglish Soccer Manager
Synopsis
In 1989, Kenny Dalglish barely played for Liverpool and focused almost entirely on his role as manager. An arcade-action-free football management game featuring his license therefore made sense. The game is purely driven by icons and menus, perhaps the first step in bringing the genre into the 90s. Whichever team you take charge of, they start in the 4th division. Match highlights can be selected: they are viewed from the side and show goals and near-misses, although they can be disabled.
You start with teams of over 20 players from which to choose your starting 11, each having a simple ability rating. Formations can be selected by placing each player in a specific position alongside the opposing team's formation, thanks to a fairly advanced system for the time. Via a separate menu, you can consult the chairman (to see if he is satisfied with your efforts), the physio (to check injuries), the scout (who suggests players you'd like to buy), etc.
