Kiaidan 00
Synopsis
Do you like Grendizer and all those heroes who, as soon as there is danger, hop on their giant robot where everyone else gets on their moped to trace themselves like a lunatic? Then Kiaidan 00 may be for you.
I say maybe, because to enjoy Kiaidan 00 on PC Engine, you have to accept certain prerequisites. The first is of course being a fan of Grendizer or Evangelion. That is the sine qua non condition. The other condition is to know how to read Japanese. Because that's all well and good, but you still have to be able to understand everything that's being told into the microphone while you're valiantly fighting against the level's boss.
The last condition is not to be too demanding in terms of what this shoot'em up can offer in terms of its gameplay. The scrolling is horizontal. With the main button, you fire, with an integrated auto-fire, which is very practical. With the other button, we can change our shot, just to find the one that suits us best... Because it is not really necessary to change our shot depending on the action, the latter being too soft to really hook the player.
And this is the main weakness of Kiaidan 00: its softness. Certainly, the music is catchy and the atmosphere is epic as hell, but in terms of the game itself, there really isn't much, so we'll try it for a few games, just to see what can happen in terms of the scenario - which doesn't seem to demonstrate any impressive originality either - to finally put the game back in its box and finish proudly in your shoot'em up collection.
Kiaidan 00 is aimed at fans of Japanese mecha series. Unfortunately, the gameplay is so flat that it's not enough to make you want to play it again from game to game.
