Synopsis

Ring King (known as King of Boxer in Japan and Europe) is a boxing game where the player starts at the bottom of the rankings and faces a succession of increasingly tough opponents, in matches lasting up to fifteen rounds. The combat system is based on three buttons: jab, hook/uppercut depending on the boxer's orientation, and defense.
Stamina plays a central role: it decreases with each hit received, but also if the player hits too quickly. Low stamina slows down attacks and reduces the chance of getting back up after a knockdown. Boxers can grapple when close, allowing both fighters to recover some energy, adding a strategic dimension to the pace of the match. Between rounds, the player can raise their stamina by hammering the buttons. The game is also known for its spectacular special attacks, capable of sending the opponent out of the ring.
