Synopsis

The story begins at Castle Daventry with King Graham and his minister talking about the daily affairs of running the country, when the magic mirror activates in front of them, showing them a bad omen. They see Lucreto, the archarchon of the Sun Kingdom, destroy the Mask of Eternity and release a wave of energy. The mirror then shows the kingdom's only hope, the modest peasant and knight, Conner of Daventry, from a neighboring village. He is shown chatting with his neighbor Sarah, when a storm breaks out and a piece of the mask falls at his feet. He picks it up and turns around to find that Sarah has been turned to stone. The magical energy released turned every mortal in the world to stone, including King Graham. With that, the Mirror finishes its vision.

At the start of the game, the half-stone wizard Connor meets tells him about the Mask of Eternity, Connor's destiny, and conjures up a magical map that shows all areas explored and allows Connor to teleport between lands once the teleportation sites for each land (except the Sun Kingdom) have been discovered. Knowing his quest, Connor headed to Castle Daventry to check on his liege and the royal family, finding Graham and the rest of the castle's inhabitants turned to stone. He swore that he would save King Graham and Queen Valanice, their families, and the rest of the people of Daventry, or die trying.
