Synopsis

Legions of Death is a menu strategy game set during the Punic Wars, between the Roman Republic and Carthage (264 to 146 BC). It is notable for its focus on naval warfare. While the Greeks built their ships to attack by ramming, the Romans, who lacked navigational experience, developed new boarding tactics to exploit their powerful infantry. Contrary to the game's advertising, the single-player mode only allows you to play as the Carthaginians, while the Roman side is only available in two-player mode.

First design your ships (from the modest bireme to the impressive seventh, add boarding ramps, towers, sails), equip them (slaves, archers, marines) and finally deploy the galleys on a top-down map of the central Mediterranean. You must take turns to maneuver your ships, conquer coastal towns to collect taxes and repair your ships, then bring the gold back to your capital. The first side to meet the victory conditions (treasure size, cities held, ships sunk) is the winner.
