M.U.L.E
Synopsis
MULE (for Multiple Use Labor Element) is a video game written in 1983 by Dan Bunten, Bill Bunten, Jim Rushing and Alan Watson for Ozark Softscape Studios, and published by Electronic Arts. Much more than a game, it is an economic simulator, the aim of which is to colonize a small planet, by playing on the production, supply and demand of its resources.
The game takes place on Irata, a small planet being colonized, including a river, mountains, deserts and a store. Four players (missing players being automatically taken care of by the computer) are invited to choose the race of their colonizing character: Mechtron, Gollumer, Packer, Bonzoid, Spheroid, Flapper, Leggite or Humanoid, each race having advantages and disadvantages which go hand in hand with different strategies. The settlers arrive on Irata, with the sum of $1,000, as well as the equivalent of $300 in energy and food to start. To win the game with maximum points, it is not only enough to amass the greatest amount of wealth, but also to cooperate with others for the survival of the colony and allow it to achieve the highest possible score.
