Synopsis

Second major version, in its 1995 edition, contemporary with the program's participation in the Dutch computer chess championship. MacChess is the free chess program written by the Dutchman Wim van Beusekom for Macintosh. Its engine, first coded in 68020 assembler then ported to PowerPC, allowed it to compete with other programs of its time: it competed in the Dutch computer chess championships in 1995 and 1996, as well as the Aegon man-machine tournament in 1997. Released without compensation, it was among the best options for playing chess on the Macintosh at a time when commercial software was expensive.
