Synopsis

This PS3 version is part of the Macross Frontier The Movie: The False Songstress hybrid pack.

This hybrid disc release of the first Macross F film also includes a special presentation of a Macross game then in development, under the title Macross Trial Frontier. The game takes place over five aerial stages where the goal is to survive five minutes (stage 4) or defeat all enemies (all other stages). In normal mode, stages unlock sequentially and each stage has a defined vehicle and co-driver. Once Normal mode is completed, Hard Mode stages are unlocked, which have tougher and more aggressive enemies as well as the ability to use all of the game's vehicles, pilots, optional equipment, and co-pilots. The player can also toggle the flight controls between Normal, where the Valkyrie jet mode moves similarly to its bipedal modes, or Real, where the jet can tilt and turn like a real airplane. In combat, Valkyries and large Varja units can switch between forms by pressing a direction on the right stick. The Queadluun-Rhea does not have an alternate form, but can still switch from high speed mode to maneuverability mode. Units will have a primary weapon (usually a rifle) and a secondary weapon (usually missiles), a melee attack, and a speed boost. Weapons have unlimited ammo, but limited magazines, and must be reloaded when depleted. All units can dash in one direction to break missile locks with a double tap and automatically shoot down missiles with the missile defense move as long as they have an Anti gauge remaining. A special bar is replenished by landing sequential hits on targets and can be spent to increase boost, turn melee into a charge tackle, trigger the vehicle's unique ultimate attack, or activate the co-pilot's special ability. At the end of the stage, the player is rated based on the number of enemies downed, as well as the time and health remaining.
