Synopsis

The game traces the rise and fall of Tommy Angelo, a 1930s mobster, through his tale of turning his story over to the police in exchange for a witness protection program. Mafia is an action driving game set in the 1930s in Lost Heaven, a fictional city in the United States inspired by New York and Chicago during Prohibition. Like the GTA games, it offers a free exploration mode (by car or on foot) of a vast city, with missions to complete to progress the story. These missions often involve traveling to different locations, going on chases, and participating in a race; most, however, are structured as fairly long and complex third-person shooter levels.
