Synopsis

Maps World (originally Topografie Wereld) is a Dutch educational game designed in the 1980s to help primary school students learn world geography. It uses a map from the mid-1980s that still includes countries like the Soviet Union. The game features three modes: “Opzoeken” (Search), where you enter a location and the game displays it on the map; “Overhoring” (Quiz), where you must name the places indicated by the computer within a given time; and “Helikopterspel” (The Helicopter Game), where you pilot a helicopter and have to fly over the world map to find specific locations. These only become visible when you are close enough. Each correct answer earns you points, and high scores reward you with extra time and harder-to-find locations on the next level. A classic and effective game for learning world geography.
