Synopsis

Mercenary (also known as Mercenary: Escape from Targ) was initially released for the Atari 8-bit in 1985 and later for Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Commodore Amiga.

After landing on the planet Targ (en route to the Damocles Gamma System), the player's main objective is to find a means of escape. A civil war between two factions, the Palyars ("good" indigenous people) and the Mechanoids ("bad guys" invaders), gives the player the opportunity to earn money to purchase their escape from Targ. For example, each faction seeks the destruction of facilities belonging to its rival, and the capture of material or other resources to support its cause. There are other routes to escape, and it is possible to combine strategies to leave Targ and maintain the wealth accumulated there.
