Synopsis

Metro-Cross is an abstract, side-scrolling single-player racing game set in an automated futuristic city. Players take on the role of “The Runner,” who must complete each of the game’s 32 stages to cross the finish line before the timer expires. If the rider completes a lap within the allotted time, the remaining time is converted into bonus points and the next lap begins.

Obstacles that hinder the runner's progress include 'slip zones' which slow them down if they attempt to pass through them, 'traps' which break under the runner's weight and cause them to fall into gaps, and 'crackers' which launch the runner into the air. and land him on his back. Later rounds also feature 'giant tires' that bounce towards the runner, barriers that emerge from the ground before folding back into it, cubes that move across particular columns of tiles, mice that attempt to jump on the runner and slow them down, and Chess Knights and kings that bounce from one tile to another. Clinging mice fall from the runner if he jumps off a springboard.
