The NuXT is a modern, open-source hardware 8-bit IBM PC/XT-compatible micro-ATX motherboard engineered and distributed by MonoTech PCs in the late 2010s. Designed to provide retro-computing enthusiasts with a reliable, brand-new replacement canvas for vintage 8088 automation nodes and gaming builds, the board is driven by a custom Turbo XT core logic topology synthesized into a modern Microchip/Atmel microcontroller and discrete high-speed logic arrays. The board hosts a standard 40-pin DIP footprint natively supporting an Intel 8088, AMD 8088, or a high-efficiency NEC V20 microprocessor operating at toggleable synchronous speeds of 4.77 MHz (standard) or a 10 MHz "Turbo" mode. Its highly accessible layout offers four standard 8-bit ISA slots positioned within a standard Micro-ATX chassis physical profile. System memory handling consists of 512 KB or 640 KB of modern, low-power SRAM chips, heavily supplemented by an onboard, integrated SVGA video controller, a built-in XT-CF (CompactFlash) IDE storage controller interface, and a PS/2 mouse/keyboard conversion routing layer built directly onto the main PCB.

The Micro-ATX Form Factor Miracle: For decades, preserving old IBM PC/XT hardware meant wrestling with massive, corroded, non-standard original IBM cases or fragile Taiwanese clone clone-boards that used ancient power line dynamics. MonoTech revolutionized this space by standardizing the NuXT layout around the modern Micro-ATX screw-hole pattern and standard 24-pin ATX power supply connectors. This allowed retro-builders to buy a cheap, modern PC chassis and a standard quiet power supply to run a native 1983-era DOS ecosystem.

Saturated Modern-Retro Integration: Unlike original 8088 motherboards that required separate, expensive expansion cards for every basic task, the NuXT features extensive onboard system convergence. It directly integrates a standard 16-bit physical CompactFlash slot routed through an internal XT-CF variant logic (allowing standard CF cards to act as solid-state IDE hard drives under MS-DOS) and a customized onboard SVGA text/graphics output array, leaving its four ISA slots entirely free for legacy sound cards (like an AdLib or Sound Blaster 1.5).
