Synopsis

Thousands of years before the events of the first game, Shinnok, one of the Old Gods who control the six realms of the Mortal Kombat universe, attempted to conquer all the realms. The god of thunder Raiden fought and defeated Shinnok in a centuries-long war, sending him to the Netherrealm, where he would be trapped forever. Now, Shinnok has managed to escape the Netherrealm with the help of the sorcerer Quan Chi and seeks revenge on the Old Gods who banished him. In his plan, he first conquers the kingdom of Edenia with the help of a traitor, Tanya, while preparing his attack on the Old Gods. To counter the threat of Shinnok, Raiden seeks help from the Earthrealm warriors who saved the realms of Emperor Shao Kahn in previous titles.
