Synopsis

In Nail 'n' Scale, the player controls Spike, an experienced climber. The player makes his way through challenging levels. In each level, the player uses climbing spikes to cross the level to the door at the end of each level. Climbing spikes are also used to break bricks blocking the path. There are 51 levels, with a boss every ten levels.
Each boss has its own weakness that must be exposed by players before it can be defeated. While the first boss isn't very intimidating, each boss gets scarier as the game progresses. Terrifying monsters can be defeated by shooting the nail in a horizontal or vertical direction. Players can be killed by their own explosive spikes, acquired through levels after the first boss. There are several exits on some levels, but all but one of them don't work. Only the "real" exit allows access to the next level.
The final boss of the video game is the evil dragon named Lore, who lives in his lair. Players can continue from where they died after a "game over"; provided they don't shut down the console.
