Nekketsu Tairiku: Burning Heroes
Synopsis
NTBH is an experimental RPG, and J-Force tried to be original, that's undeniable. If the game is presented in a classic way with pure turn-based play and a team of five characters, a first detail quickly surprises: we only play the hero.
In practice, what does it look like? At the start of each turn we choose the hero's action (attack, object, defense), then the turn begins and the other characters play alone.
Surely aware of the future decline in skill among players, the developers were visionary and therefore reduced everything to the strict minimum! Fortunately, we still have a little control over the team. As the game progresses, we collect various "formations" that we can assign to the team each turn. Rather offensive, defensive or magical, their impact is real, and can really change the outcome of a fight. Alas, once again, all this is very light, there is no explanation, and you will often have to test a lot of combinations before finding the one suitable for the bosses (the other fights rarely pose a problem).
Last point, the charge of invocations. As hits are taken, a small percentage at the bottom right increases until it reaches 100%. Once the maximum is reached, you can launch the summon of the hero (a dragon). Initially weak, the summons evolve with the hero's levels to become fearsomely powerful.
Nekketsu Tairiku Burning Heroes is a pretty strange RPG. Charming by its multiple crossed scenarios and its more than honorable technique, it is also irritating by its minimalist gameplay (you only control one character in combat) and its extreme repetitiveness.
