Synopsis

Based on the National American Football League, the game is the sequel to the Sega Saturn's only football video game, NFL '97. This is the final game in Sega's original Joe Montana/NFL series, which will be replaced by NFL 2K.

Like the previous two games in the NFL series (NFL '95 and NFL '97), NFL '98 was released exclusively for the North American market. It was not only the last American football video game for the MegaDrive, but also one of the last sports games released for a 16-bit console, which were succeeded by 32-bit consoles like the Sega Saturn and Sony's PlayStation. The game uses a modified Prime Time NFL engine, and introduces Deion Sanders as well as team updates from 96-97.
