Synopsis

In Nightmare, the player controls a visitor in a haunted mansion. The goal is to escape through a constantly moving trapdoor in the attic. His job will be made more difficult by the ghosts still hanging around the house. The player must climb three floors to reach the attic, and there is a ghost for each floor.

Ghosts become invisible when they pass through the walls of the house. Although invisible, they are harmless, so they must make themselves visible to catch the visitor. They will become invisible again if they pass through the walls of the house again. If they catch the visitor, he will lose one of his lives. But once the visitor passes the ghost floor, the ghost will be paralyzed and can be caught by the visitor.

Besides ghosts, other dangers threaten the visitor. A storm breaks out and lightning strikes the mansion, creating balls of lightning that will travel through the ground. The flashes will also make ghosts appear invisible while the lightning bolts are going off. Also, the visitor cannot stand still for too long or a trap door will open and they will fall, losing a life. To make things even more difficult, there will also be a randomly placed obstacle blocking the visitor's path.

The player starts with three lives and gains one each time they escape the mansion. As the player grows by reaching the attic or capturing the ghosts, the game becomes more difficult. The number of obstacles increases and the exit becomes invisible unless the player captures a ghost. On higher difficulty levels, catching a ghost will not be enough, as the player will also need to obtain the floor plan of the house, which appears on a chest after capturing a ghost.

The game can be played by 2 players, with one of them controlling the ghosts in the house.
