Synopsis

Nuke It is a series of unauthorized expansions for Duke Nukem 3D. It is notably at the heart of the Micro Star v. FormGen Inc. case, a landmark trial that significantly strengthened copyright protection in digital media in the United States.

All Nuke It expansions were released in 1996 by Micro Star Software under the brand name "CrystalVision" and sold illegally in the North American and European markets. On September 11, 1998, an injunction from the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit forced Micro Star to cease their distribution.

It is often claimed, incorrectly, that Micro Star subsequently acquired a license from 3D Realms to publish authorized versions of the expansions; in fact, all Nuke It products were released in 1996, before the 1998 injunction.
