Peek-A-Boo
Synopsis
Peek‑A‑Boo is an Atari 2600 prototype designed for very young children. Presented as a “revolutionary” activity, it was supposed to teach notions of memory, orientation and direction through a simple game inspired by hide and seek. The hero, a cat named Smart Seymour, appears and disappears behind different shapes (block, rectangle, four colored squares). Depending on the variant chosen, the buttons on the Kid's Controller move Seymour or produce an error sound. Eight modes were planned, ranging from a simple block to four colored squares, with some remaining mysterious and unfinished. Designed with the help of a psychologist, Peek-A-Boo illustrates Atari's attempt to expand its audience to children, but it was never released commercially and remains a historical curiosity.
