Synopsis
The first mainstream video game to achieve real success was Pong. This is a table tennis simulation for two players, similar to Tennis for Two. This game was created in 1968 by the American Ralph H. Baer, on his Brown Box prototype (later the Magnavox Odyssey). Nolan Bushnell, at Atari, was inspired to design the Pong arcade machine. The game became extremely popular and has been ported to most platforms since then, including the Atari 2600. It was also available on most early personal computers, such as the Apple II and of course the Commodore 64.
