Synopsis

Pro Yakyuu Family Stadium '87 is the second game in Namco's long-running Family Stadium series (renamed "Famista", short for "Family Stadium", after the third edition). This is a traditional baseball game that allows one human player to compete against the CPU, two human players to compete against each other, or two CPU players to compete against each other in a "Watch" spectator mode. Instead of being a full sequel to Pro Yakyuu Family Stadium, the game is more of an updated version of the original. It adds a few features such as two more teams (for a total of 12) and updates the official team rosters, but nothing has changed regarding gameplay, graphics, or music. This is an important historical element, as it has become standard practice for future sports game franchises around the world. This game has nothing to do with R.B.I. Baseball 2 by Tengen. Although the R.B.I. Although the original baseball was carried by Family Stadium, the two franchises diverged after the initial game. The R.B.I. series Baseball moved toward more realistic athlete sprites, while the Family Stadium series continued to use "super deformed" sprites.
